Tent Hacks: How to Knot your Guy lines when Packing your Tent
Guy lines might seem like a small detail, but they play a huge role in your tent’s stability and weather resistance.
Unfortunately, they’re also one of the most overlooked parts when it comes to packing up.
In this blog, we’ll share Mike’s simple guy line hack to help you keep them tidy and tangle-free. By taking a few extra seconds when packing away your tent, you’ll save yourself hassle the next time you set up—your guy lines will be ready to peg straight out of the bag.
Step One
Extend your guy lines fully. Before you begin, pull out the entire length of each guy line so there’s no hidden slack. Fold the looped end into your hand. Start with the looped end of the guy line and fold it into the palm of your hand.
Step Two
Continue folding back and forth. Keep gathering the guy line in a zigzag pattern, back and forth into your hand, until the whole line is folded.
Step three
Wrap the loose end around the bundle. Using the loose (non-looped) end of the guy line, begin wrapping it tightly around the centre of your folded bundle.
Step Four
With your other hand, form a small loop and feed the bundled guy lines through it to secure the knot.
Step Five
Let it hang. Gently pull the wrapped knot away from the tent and let it hang. Your guy line is now neatly bundled, tangle-free, and ready for your next adventure.
